    Course Outline and Focus

    Health and physical education at Brighton State School achieves a wide variety of outcomes in the three strands of the Health and Physical Education syllabus adopted by Education Queensland. These strands include Promoting the Health of Individuals and Communities, Enhancing Personal Development, and Developing Movement Concepts and Motor Skills.

    Prep - year 3 focus on Body Awareness and Management Skills, Locomotor Skills, Co-ordination Activities, and development of Ball Skills. In term 4, students in Years 1 - 3 participate in an Aquatics unit.

    Years 4 – 7 take part in table tennis, badminton and other net games in Term 1, Athletics and Cross-Country in Term 2; Sports related Skill Development and Terms 3 and 4. A wide variety of sports are practiced including Touch Football, Hockey, Softball and T Ball, Basketball, Netball, Cricket and Soccer.

    A major focus of the Physical Education program is the development of physical fitness. In addition to this element, a focus on achieving advanced game skills in many sports to enable students to participate in sport at Interschool level and Regional level. Furthermore, it is hoped that the development of sportsmanlike conduct is learned throughout participation in the Physical Education program. Fun and enjoyment of a wide variety of sports is also to be developed in the Brighton State School Physical Education program.

    In conclusion, the physical education program at Brighton State School emphasises the significance of physical activity in people’s lives and how physical activity can contribute to effective functioning throughout life.
