Brighton State School was established in 1920 and is located
in the most northern area of the Geebung District in the
city of Brisbane. It is situated in the bayside suburb of
Brighton, neighbouring Sandgate and Shorncliffe. It is a
small primary school of approximately 320 children, with these numbers
expected to remain stable in the forseeable future.
The majority of children attending Brighton School are
Australian born and of European backgrounds although we
also have a small number of Aboriginal, Islander, Asian
and other ethnic background families, as well as itinerant
families. Our school has an inclusive philosophy towards
children with disabilities, and all religious beliefs
are welcomed and accepted. The student community comprises
a diverse range of academic standards and aspirations.
The school is managed by a dedicated team consisting
of a Principal, several full-time
teaching staff, specialist teachers, administration and
ancilliary staff.
Parents in our school community are supportive, knowledgeable
in school matters and involved both in the classroom
and in general school affairs. The P&C is active and both
parents and staff have the opportunity to serve on P&C
sub-committees.
Brighton State School caters for student teachers from various tertiary institutions. The staff has a wide range of experience.
Particular features of the school include its use of computers in classrooms (all classrooms are networked and have internet access), an air-conditioned library, a mutipurpose hall, active parent involvement and its aesthetic grounds.
Consistent and supportive behaviour management is a strong focus and all members of the school community work towards making it a vibrant place of learning.
