Brighton State School has a fully networked computer system. The network (computers linked to each other) allows students and teachers access to common resources from any workstation within the school.

Each classroom has access to a small bank of about 4 computers in the room. As well, our library has a mini-lab of 18 computers. students have access to class and library computers for school activities throughout the day.

Brighton State School has consistently achieved a rating of AA on the ICT index which Education Queensland uses as a benchmark for ICT integration.

    The Internet

In its simplest form the Internet can be described as a network of computer networks, where computers can speak to each other using telecommunications. Access to the Internet allows us to have access to information and resources from all over the world. It allows access to the very latest research and data.

Our school Internet access is a managed internet service. All Education Queensland schools use this service. A managed service enables us to block access to certain websites.

We believe at Brighton State School that introducing students to the vast resources of the Internet should be a partnership with parents, students and the school. Under teacher supervision, children across all year levels are able to access services through the Internet that add another dimension to their learning. The future for our children will almost certainly involve computer technology on a large scale, both at work and on the home front.

We believe that the access we are giving is a privilege and not a right, therefore there are responsibilities for all involved.

Parents and students are requested to read and sign (a) the Student Agreement and (b) the Parent or Guardian Agreement to enable students to access the Internet. Please discuss with your child the responsibilities involved. Parents of children in the lower grades may sign the student agreement on behalf of their children, however we urge parents to discuss responsible usage with their child.
