LOTE (Languages
Other Than English) |
In Year 6, our students study one semester of German and
one semester of Japanese. Students can then make an informed
choice of language for Year 7.
The course introduces basic language and cultural information.
The four language skills of reading, writing , speaking and listening are introduced progressively through Year 6 and built on in Year 7.
Cultural experiences include food tastings, meeting native speakers and learning about the special days and festivals celebrated in Japan or Germany.
From time to time, there will be opportunities to enhance classroom LOTE learning through competitions, exchange student visits, and other cultural events.
Language topics covered in class will include :
- personal information, i.e. name, age, place of residence.
- description of appearance
- hobbies / sports
- shopping / money / time / weather
