Welcome to Brighton State School Library.
Our air-conditioned school library houses a collection
of more than 17,000 resources, an up-to-date collection
reflecting the needs of our school community. The Library
is open for borrowing and browsing:
- before school from 8:15 am (except Friday);
- during first break 11:00am - 11:45am;
- after school most days until 3:30pm.
Parents are welcome to visit the library to assist their
children in selecting resources. All children need a library
bag when borrowing to protect the book and prevent excessive
wear and tear. Loans are for a two week period.
Children in Prep and Year 1 visit the library at least
once every week with their class for an activity with
the Teacher Librarian. Children in the rest of the school
use the library at different times throughout the week
for research and literature related activities, as well
as for information technology activities.
Our extensive Junior Fiction collection boasts 'old'
favourites as well as new books. Our "Read to Me
Club"
which encourages children in Years 1 -3 to borrow and
share books with their parents, operates each term. Our "Radical Reader Club" encourages independent readers. Older
readers are encouraged to borrow from our extensive fiction
collection which contains many award winning novels as
well as other popular reads. Children are encouraged to
use the '5 finger test' to judge if books are suitable
for their independent reading level.
We have a mini-lab of 18 computers in the library that
are widely used by all year levels. Children use the computers
to locate resources within our library catalogue using
our Alice Inquiry system, as well as to access
the Internet and a variety of software programs on our
school network.
Lunchtime activities include: Chess Club; board games;
computer activities; reading; browsing and borrowing
